Chief Information Officers’ Conference 2011

I was pleased to be invited by the team at Rigstar communications to sit on a panel at aRemote Communications CIO Conferencein Calgarythis week with other industry professional’s from around North America.

This event exceeded my expectations in creating the opportunity for business and technical leaders to have collaborative discussions on how leading edge technologies can be applied in a geographically dispersed global network of people and property assets.

Ourtopic ofblended learning strategies for remote site safety training was on point with the spirit of this year’s CIO Conference,Health, Safety and Environmental Sustainability – and how IT is leading the charge.

Instead of focusing just on remote IT infrastructure, this conferenceexamined how IT applications are improving the fields of health, safety and environmental sustainability. All three are hot topics.

The Oil Gas industry is essentially self regulated with respect to health and safety training.  Historically, the bulk of the Oil Gas Industries training has been classroom based, instructor led training.  There will always be a requirement for hands on training; however, shifting theory based training to an online format has produced huge efficiencies and savings for many industries.  I am confident the oil and gas sector will follow this trend.

OLE’s ability tocustomize and load course content ontoour largercorporations existing learningmanagement infrastructurecwasdiscussed and well received by the attendees.
