Online Fall Protection Training Course

Nearly 20 % of all lost time injuries can be attributed to falls in the workplace. The majority of falls occur on the same level, while others involve falls to a lower level. The latter usually resulting in more serious injuries or death. Falls are preventable with the correct training.

Our Fall Protection Training Program will provide participants with an understanding of their responsibilities when working in areas where fall hazards exist, the use of and inspection of the required equipment and the critical controls necessary to reduce the risk of a fall.

Upon successful completion, a 2 year Fall Protection certificate will be issued automatically.

To ensure that the participant has sufficiently transferred knowledge from the theory portion of the course to the practical components of inspecting and donning the harness, a competent person trained in fall protection (supervisor) must sign the participants card which confirms that the participant has inspected and donned the harness correctly.

Regulations pertaining to this topic vary from one province to the next and then again in federally regulated workplaces. For convenience Olelearning has captured Fall Arrest/Protection Regulations which can be reviewed by province and for Federally Regulated workplaces. In general however a worker at risk of falling more than 3 metres (10 feet) must be protected by a guardrail,  travel-restraint mechanism or a fall-arrest system. A travel-restraint system  uses a CSA-approved full body harness with lanyard and lifeline and anchorage point. It allows a worker to travel just far enough to reach the edge but not over it. A fall-arrest system must include:

  • A CSA-approved full body harness
  • Alanyard equipped with a shock absorber (unless the shock absorber could cause a falling worker to hit the ground or an object or level below the work)
  • Attached to a lifeline or by the lanyard to an adequate fixed support
  • Must prevent a falling worker from hitting the ground or any object or level below the work

Fall Protection/Arrest equipment and training is often required in conjunction with Confined Space Entry Training, and also with Aerial Lift Training.
